About Praia da Princesa

Praia da Princesa (Princess Beach) is one of the trendier beaches along the central Caparica coast. Its beach bars and social scene give it a vibrant, laid-back atmosphere that attracts both surfers and beachgoers. The surf is typical Caparica beach break — multiple shifting peaks over a sandy bottom.

The waves here suit intermediate surfers who are comfortable reading shifting sandbars and can handle some variety in wave shape. The beach has a youthful energy, with beach bar music and a social vibe that makes it a great place to spend a full day — surfing in the morning, relaxing on the beach in the afternoon.

Surf Conditions

Princesa picks up west to northwest swells and produces typical beach break peaks — some days well-shaped, other days more disorganised depending on the sandbar formations. Waist to head-high is the sweet spot. East to northeast offshore winds help clean up the faces.

Spring and autumn tend to offer the best balance of wave quality and pleasant conditions. Summer can be fun on smaller days, while winter brings more power but also more challenging currents. The sandbars shift regularly, so local knowledge or spending time watching the lineup helps.

⚠️Safety warning: This spot is best suited for intermediate surfers. Rip currents, shifting sandbars are hazards to be aware of. Always check conditions before paddling out and never surf here alone.

Getting There & Facilities

Accessible by car or bike along the coastal path. The Transpraia beach train (currently closed since 2019) may reopen in future (June-September) or by car along the coastal road. Parking at the beach access points.

Several popular beach bars operate during summer, making this one of the more social beaches on the coast. Lifeguards patrol from June to September. Food, drinks, and music are easily found. Off-season, facilities are limited.
