Featured listings (paid) appear first in each category. After that, listings are sorted by rating and relevance. We never accept payment to manipulate organic rankings.

Costa da Caparica offers consistent waves year-round thanks to its 30 km west-facing coastline. Beach breaks with sandy bottoms make it ideal for all levels. Summer brings smaller, cleaner waves perfect for beginners, while autumn and winter deliver powerful swells for experienced surfers.

September to November is ideal — warm water, consistent swells, and fewer crowds. Summer (June–August) is great for beginners with smaller waves and warm weather. Winter (December–February) brings the biggest swells but colder water and shorter days.

Caparica is just 20 minutes from Lisbon by car or Uber (€15–22). By public transport, take Bus 3710 from Areeiro (~55 min) or the ferry from Cais do Sodré to Cacilhas plus Bus 3022. Check our Transport Guide for full details.

Absolutely. The sandy beaches between São João and the CDS jetties offer gentle, forgiving waves with easy paddle-out channels. There are over 20 surf schools offering lessons for complete beginners, and board rental is widely available.
