Getting to Costa da Caparica

Everything you need to know about reaching Caparica from Lisbon, the airport, and getting around locally.

Costa da Caparica is just 20 minutes from central Lisbon across the 25 de Abril Bridge. Whether you're arriving from the airport or the city centre, there are several easy ways to reach the coast — and once you're there, bike paths make it simple to explore the entire 30 km coastline.

From Lisbon

Lisbon City Centre to Caparica

Bus

From €2.60
Route 3710 from Areeiro (Metro Green Line). Most frequent option — every 15–30 min.
~55 minutes. Terminates at Costa da Caparica bus terminal, 300m from the beach.
Route 3709 from Marquês de Pombal. Weekdays only, ~6 departures/day.

Ferry + Bus

Recommended
Ferry from Cais do Sodré to Cacilhas. 10 min, €1.50. Every 15–20 min (05:35–01:40).
Bus 3022 from Cacilhas, every 30 min, 45 min ride. Or Bus 3011 express, 35 min.
Total: ~€4.10, ~55–65 min. Scenic river crossing and avoids bridge traffic.

Car / Taxi / Uber

20–30 min via A2 and 25 de Abril Bridge. Longer during rush hour and summer weekends.
Uber/Bolt: €15–22. Taxi: €20–30. Bridge toll only charged northbound (returning to Lisbon).
Free/low-cost seafront parking available. In summer, expect a few EUR/day.

From the airport

Lisbon Airport to Caparica

Uber / Bolt

Best value
€18–24 depending on traffic and surge pricing.
25–35 min. Pick up at P2 parking outside arrivals (exit, turn left, 1 min walk).

Taxi / Private Transfer

Taxi: €30–40 from the rank outside arrivals. Private transfer: €25–35 fixed rate.
20–30 min. Private transfers include meet & greet at arrivals hall.

Public Transport

Metro/bus to Areeiro, then Bus 3710 to Caparica. Total ~1h 15min, €4–5.
Not recommended with surfboards or heavy luggage. Best for budget-only travellers.

Getting Around Caparica

Transpraia Beach Train

Closed
The historic mini-train ran 9 km along the coast from Costa da Caparica to Fonte da Telha with 21 stops. It has been closed since 2019.
Restoration work is underway by the new owner, with a possible return in 2026. Check transpraia.org for updates.

Bike Rental

From ~€6/hour or ~€15/day for a city bike. E-bikes from ~€30/day. Fat bikes for sand available.
Extensive cycle paths along the coast and through the dunes. Several rental shops in town and near São João.

Local Buses

Carris Metropolitana routes 3022 and 3011 connect Caparica town to Almada and Cacilhas.
Useful for reaching Almada for shopping or connecting back to the Cacilhas ferry.

Walking Distances

Bus terminal to beach: 300m (4 min). Town to São João: 1.5 km (20 min). Beaches are ~500m apart along the promenade.
Town to Fonte da Telha: 9 km — use a bike (Transpraia currently closed) instead.
