Praia do Norte sits at the northern end of the main Costa da Caparica beach stretch, close to the town centre and all its amenities. The proximity to restaurants, cafés, and car parks makes it one of the most accessible surf spots on the coast, and it draws a broad mix of surfers from beginners to competent intermediates.
The sandbars here benefit from the influence of nearby groynes that help stabilise the bank formations, producing more predictable peaks than the fully open stretches further south. The beach faces west and picks up plenty of swell, making it a reliable option throughout the year.
Surf Conditions
Praia do Norte responds well to west and northwest swells, which are the dominant swell directions on this coast. Waves are typically waist to head-high and break over well-formed sandbars. Offshore winds from the east or northeast keep conditions clean and groomed.
The spot works across all tides, though mid-tide often provides the best shape. Autumn and winter deliver the most power, while spring and summer offer gentler, more forgiving waves ideal for learning. The consistent nature of this beach makes it a dependable everyday option.
Getting There & Facilities
Accessible by car from Costa da Caparica town. Parking available along the seafront and in the town centre car parks, just a short walk from the beach. Bus services run regularly from Lisbon via Cacilhas.
Being close to the town centre means excellent facilities — numerous restaurants, cafés, and shops are within walking distance. Lifeguards patrol during summer months. There are showers, changing rooms, and public toilets at the main beach entrances.
